Education Finance Reform

Education Finance Reform is a process in which the Ministry of Education has decided to pay schools according to the student enrollment rate.  With this program, the high cost of secondary school education to parents through user fees will decrease. Statistics has show that there is a drastic decrease in Secondary Enrollment in Belize from Primary Enrollment.   Statistics also show that 43% of our population are living in Poverty and we all know financial support to schools based on enrollment will not address poverty in the home.  I believe that this factor is the major contributor for a decrease in our education enrollment at different Levels because a child cannot come to school if the parent cannot provide the basic need for them to attend.

The Ministry of Education is now trying something new as to be fair in how money is distributed to Secondary Schools based on enrollment. According to the Ministry of Education Belize that over time, this reform will put an affordable high school within reach of all Belizean children. It will also lead to increased enrollment rates and lower dropout rates - and fight crime, violence and poverty.
Do you believe that this reform will help with increasing enrollment rate??
